The Henry Baker Registered Nursing Scholarship Program Keswick's Endowment Board has approved full annual scholarship(s) to assist high school graduates to facilitate nursing careers by obtaining a nursing license from a two-year Maryland State accredited program. Qualified candidates must attend a qualified primary and secondary educational program approved by the State Commission on Education. The nursing scholarship was developed to encourage and promote nursing career development in the field of geriatric nursing through financial support. The scholarship will cover the full cost of in-state tuition and all related fees; however, excludes room and board. Scholarship Criteria - The selection of the final candidates will be based in part upon need for financial assistance plus character, determination and seriousness. The candidates must be high school seniors with a 3.00 GPA or better. Candidates must also submit a letter of reference from a high school teacher and administrator and a two (2)-page essay (double spaced-1 inch margins) describing their interest in the geriatric nursing field. All information must be submitted by March 1st of the applicants' senior year of high school. Selection Process - Each nursing candidate will receive a letter from the Selection Committee no later than March 31st acknowledging receipt of the package. Personal interviews with the finalists will be held no later than April 30th with a winner selected and notified by May 15th. It is understood and expected that the recipient will remain in good academic standing with the school and obtain a minimum of a 3.00 GPA in order to continue receiving financial support. A copy of the recipient's transcript must be submitted at the end of each semester. Tuition will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the recipient. It is understood and expected that upon completion of the program, the recipient will work full time for Keswick Multi-Care Center, and remain in good standing with the Board of Nursing for a period of not less than two years. The Keswick Geriatric Nursing Assistant Scholarship Programs Keswick's Endowment Committee has approved several $500 nursing assistant scholarship awards to assist high school graduates obtain a geriatric nursing assistant license from a state approved accredited program. Qualified candidates must have attended and graduated from a Maryland High School that did not provide GNA training and are not eligible for certification through other state-affiliated agencies. The scholarship was developed to encourage and promote nursing careers in the field of geriatric nursing services through financial support. The scholarship will cover the full cost of course and related fees plus pay the student a monthly stipend of $100.00. Scholarship Criteria - The selection of the nursing assistant scholarship final candidates will be based in part upon need for financial assistance plus character, determination and seriousness. The candidates must be high school graduates with a 2.50 GPA or better. Candidates must also submit a copy of their transcript, a letter of reference from a high school teacher and a one (1)-page essay (double spaced-1 inch margins) describing their interest in the geriatric nursing field. All information must be submitted no later than March 1st. Selection Process - Each candidate will receive a letter from the Selection Committee no later than March 31st acknowledging receipt of the package. Personal interviews with the finalists will be held no later than April 30 with recipients selected and notified by May 15th. Tuition will be paid directly to the school on behalf of the recipient. Keswick will request an evaluation mid-way through the training program. Information in this evaluation will be shared with the student. It is understood and expected that upon successful completion of the program, the recipient will work full-time for Keswick Multi-Care Center subject to shift availability. Required state certification must be completed no later than 120 days after employment and employee will remain in good standing with the Board of Nursing for a period not less than two years.
