Our newest friends, Elie and Coco
Elie (A large white male cat) came to us in the Spring of 2009. Elie was extremely timid and fearful as he had been abused and is blind in one eye. It took Elie several months before he was able to trust us, but with much TLC Elie has come out of his shell and is loved and pampered by both the residents and staff. Elie takes every opportunity to jump up on a lap or sit quietly between two residents. Elie has quickly learned what it means to be a Therapy Cat and provides our residents with unconditional love.
Coco, a Lhasa Apso, arrived in the Summer of 2009 from the (ASPCA) The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. www.aspca.org The ASPCA found Coco swimming in a muddy pond and quickly brought her to the falls road shelter. Memory Care had put in a special request to the ASPCA to find us a small loving dog that would be appropriate to our environment. When we received the phone call from the shelter, we were quite excited as we had been waiting for several months to find a dog that would be the right fit for Memory Care and its residents. Coco fit in immediately; She was well trained and knew basic commands. One of her favorite activities is sitting near the residents during meal time waiting for table scraps 'which we limit for her own good'. Both Elie and Coco have brought happiness and laughter to our residents and no doubt will continue to do so for many years to come.
